I'm so excited for many years of great music making to come! By Music Lover on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 5:22:00PM The concert was wonderful -- my husband, my father and myself really enjoyed ourselves. Robert Franz was amazing. What a talent! What energy! By boiseplanet.com on Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at 10:42:00AM Philharmonic's dramatic adventure fills the air with "Hope and Courage" (Nov. 17) - Boise Philharmonic audiences last weekend heard soaring, hopeful melodies contrasted with terse, percussive sections foreshadowing certain danger. The roller coaster made for a deeply satisfying musical adventure. In one moment, the orchestra launched frenetic tension, and in the next, they offered soothing, somehow familiar refrains. A RARE treat to hear a narration from the composer herself! We share tickets with another couple, so glad we chose November! By Deb on Wednesday, October 22, 2008 at 6:05:00PM WOW! I had the opportunity to go to the Saturday morning rehearsal with Alpin Hong. What an exciting time to sit and talk with both Robert Franz and Alpin Hong. They were so gracious to take the time to answer questions. Maestro Franz is so personable! You don't want to miss any performance. The whole Philharmonic is amazing! So talented!! By Anonymous on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 12:12:00PM I have enjoyed finishing touches on Saterday mornings for many years now. Todays dress rehersal was disapointing. Not one movement was presented in its entirety. Next time we will go to the music store and buy a cd of our choice. It a shame to lose such a social event. We senior citizens don't have many of these. By Terry Stamps on Friday, September 19, 2008 at 8:08:00AM I really do not know much about the Boise Philharmonic however it won't be long. You have recently added my son (Justin Stamps) to your trumpet section and to Boise's Philharmonic family. Naturally we will be visiting sometime soon and of course listen to a concert or two. By Anonymous on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at 9:30:00AM What a beautiful experience my friends and I had last Saturday night at the concert. Being a pianist and teacher myself, I spent more time watching Robert Franz and how he felt and interpreted the music through his directing than I watched the other performers!!! He is an incredible musician, and I love his sense of humor!! Rachel Barton Pine has such talent, and I could really feel her passion of the music she performed. This experience was very calming and spiritual for my friends and I....I have never enjoyed classical music as much as I did Saturday night. Thanks for resurrecting my love for classical music!! By Norma Hunt on Saturday, September 13, 2008 at 11:43:00AM I have been a season ticket holder for more than 30 years. I can remember the squeaky seats in the Capitol High Auditorium. The orchestra has come a long way since then and is a first class orchestra in my estimation. My tenure at the concerts is about to come to an end, however. I wondered at the fact that the audience was allowed to take part in the selection of a new conductor. What could we tell from watching someone for and hour and a-half? I knew the final decision would have to come from the musicians, not the audience. But I marked my ballots and hoped for the best. When Mr. Franz was chose I spoke with sever fellow concert goers and not a one of them had chosen him. Curious. And not a one of them is thrilled with the idea of "radically new" music. I wonder if Boise is too consertiveative for Mr. Franz's tastes. Oh, I'm sure there are some who welcome a change, but many of us long time subscribers would rather enjoy the tried and true classics. Too bad. I guess that's our loss, but when the next season begins you will not find me in the audience. I will be home with a good CD of more listener-friendly music. I will miss you. |
